SCHOOL: Pittwater House College High School
WHAT FIRST GOT YOU INTERESTED IN ICE HOCKEY?
I watched my brothers play and wanted to give it a go. My two brothers. Harrison, my twin brother, plays defense, and Matthew, who is 10, plays forward.
WHAT AGE DID YOU START?
I started as a player when I was nine and when I was 10, I switched to goaltending.
DID YOU LIKE IT IMMEDIATELY?
Yes. I remember when I put all the goalie protective gear on for the first time, wobbled along the narrow corridor leading to the rink and stepped onto the ice.
WHAT POSITION DO YOU PLAY?
I am the goalie, which in ice hockey is called the goaltender.
WHY DO YOU LIKE THAT POSITION?
I am the last line of defense and I want to snuff out the opposing player’s dream of scoring against me.
WHO DO YOU PLAY FOR?
I play for the Blacktown Flyers.
WHEN AND WHERE ARE THE MATCHES?
Games are played on the weekend at Penrith, Newcastle, Liverpool, Canterbury, Macquarie or Norwest. I often have to wake up at 5am to get to the rink an hour before the game for a warm up.
HOW OFTEN AND WHERE DO YOU TRAIN?
Twice a week at Macquarie Ice Skating. I also attend clinics and training camps
DESCRIBE YOUR PLAYING STYLE?
Calm and focused.
WHAT’S A MEMORABLE ICE HOCKEY MOMENT FOR YOU?
The first was when I was selected for U14 NSW State Team to go to the National Championship in Melbourne last year (Ginsberg Cup). The other was at the U14 Girl’s World Selects Invitational Ice Hockey Tournament in Chamonix, France. During a penalty shoot
out against a Canadian side, I saved all three penalty shots and we won.
DO YOU HAVE ANY ICE HOCKEY HEROES?
Manon Rhéaume because she was the first female to play for the National Hockey League.
WHAT WOULD YOU LIKE TO ACHIEVE IN THE SPORT?
In the short term, to keep on improving. In the long term, to play for Australia.
WHAT OTHER SPORTS DO YOU REALLY ENJOY?
Cricket, touch footie and soccer. In Year 6 of school, I played for Mona Vale Public School in a representative cricket team.
WHAT DO YOU LIKE BEST AND LEAST ABOUT PLAYING?
I like the fast action, making friends, travelling and new experiences. I don’t like getting up really early or getting to bed really late.
WOULD YOU RECOMMEND IT TO OTHER KIDS?
It is a great team sport and it’s the fastest game in the world, so it’s very exciting to play, but safe with all our gear on. My brothers are not the biggest players but really enjoy the bumps.
